Pulborough STW Inlet Screen Upgrade - A Wastewater Case Study

Huber Technology completed the inlet screen upgrade at Pulborough STW, installing two HUBER Micro Strainer ROTAMAT® Ro9 / 700’s on an elevated inlet works.

Project profile

Working with BTU, Southern Water’s small projects delivery team, we looked at various options to replace the old worn out 25-mm Parkwood bar screen and screenings dewaterer. The P.E. for Pulborough was 8,352 and the consented FFT 62 l/s. Flows from the terminal pump station had been recorded up to 160 l/s and the existing screens were allowing unscreened influent into the balance to the storm tanks and the rags and other large items were blocking downstream pumps.

 HUBER Technology supplied

  • 2x HUBER Micro Strainer ROTAMAT® Ro9 / 700 / 6 combined screens
  • Control panels
  • M&E installation

Objective and solution

The maximum size Ro9 / 700 was agreed and fitted to meet the maximum inflow of 160 l/s. It was also decided to fit two screens and remove the existing bypass bar screen.

Working with BTU to delivery this project within budget and on time was a challenge for everyone. But, with good communication between BTU, Southern Water and Huber, the end result was a great success” commented Adrian Heneghan, HUBER Area Manager.

Ricky Corkett, Southern Water site operator also commented that he was, “More than happy with the screens. Now I have time to work on other parts of the site and not have to worry about lifting and clearing pumps”.
