  • Function

The KULT® SRT system is an easy and eco-friendly method of sewage sludge drying, which uses solar energy for drying. As an option, other regenerative energy sources can be used in addition.

The function principle of the KULTreg; SRT:
The basic principle of this method is drying of sewage sludge in a glasshouse using the incident solar radiation. A special sludge turning system performs both spreading and turning of the sludge as well as its transport from one side to the other.
The way of feeding the dewatered sludge into the greenhouse can be adjusted to suit customer-specific requirements.
The sludge can be fed either manually, i.e. with a wheel loader, or fully automatically by a distributing screw, which is installed so that optimal utilisation of the evaporation area is achieved.
The dried sludge is discharged either into a trough or by means of a belt conveyor directly into a container.
Since the sludge is fed continuously, also units with a low throughput can be used for sludge dewatering.

Options of all year operation and increase of drying capacity
Pure solar drying depends directly on the incident solar radiation, so that all-year operation is possible. If the sludge is not stored in winter, there are several options available how to support solar drying with external energy sources. In this way the evaporation capacity can be increased and all year operation achieved.
    • Heat pump or other heat sources
A very ecofriendly method of supplying additional energy is the use of a heat pump, which brings the thermal energy present at the WWTP outlet to a higher level so that it can be used for sludge drying.
If other heat sources are available (e.g. exhaust heat), these can be used as well.

    • Floor heating
The intake of additional heat energy by means of a high performance floor heating ensures maximum heat transfer with minor losses can be insured. The more efficient evaporation rates permit a more space saving system design.
    • Perforated plate bottom
The evaporation efficiency per area can be further increased with a perforated plate bottom so that the air streams through the sludge and not just over it. If the water absorption potential of the ambient air is insufficient, the air is heated by heat exchangers prior to the ventilators.
