Cost-effective sludge dewatering for independence in sludge disposal

The sludge to be processed is pumped from a storage tank or digester into the Screw Press. The polymer is continuously prepared in a conditioning plant and added to the sludge proportionally to the solids amount. Intensive mixing of polymer and sludge is achieved by the special HUBER injection and mixing system in the sludge line.
The filtration unit of the Screw Press consists in a conical and a cylindrical sieve with different apertures. A sufficiently long pipe reactor or hose-type flocculation reactor is used to produce dewaterable sludge flocks and stabilize the flocculated sludge. An internal pressure is generated by pressure feed of the dewatering machine. At a variably adjustable internal pressure level, the dewatering screw starts to operate.
Due to the conical screw shape, the sludge is additionally exposed to an increasing dewatering pressure. A pneumatically controlled pressure cone compacts the sludge prior to discharging it. Regulation of the pneumatic cone, i.e. opening of a ring-shaped discharge gap, is dependent on the motor charging rate.
