The ROTAMAT® RoS 2S disc thickener for continuous mechanical sludge thickening is a combination of static and mechanical filtration.
The machine is an inclined, slowly rotating filter disc construction. The filter bottom consists of a micro filter cover on a perforated carrier disc.
The filtration unit is a circular micro filter with a constant mesh of 0.3 to 0.45 mm. The filter disc is self-sealing and installed into a closed stainless steel tank, it divides the tank into a thickening zone (working area) and a filtrate collection zone. The pre-flocculated sludge flows from the reaction tank onto the filter disc surface. The slightly flocculated sludge settles on the filter and the filtrate water collects in the filtrate collection zone and leaves the tank through the outlet.
An additional scraping device is fitted to the disc surface to support discharge. Due to the scraping device, the filter bottom is continuously cleaned from solids. The inclined arrangement of the entire system ensures that only highly thickened solids are discharged as thick sludge.
Cleaning of the filter disc is discontinuous by means of a spray nozzle bar, from the filtrate collection zone into the thickening zone. This guarantees that no solids will be washed into the filtrate. Such discontinuous cleaning leads to enormous water savings, permanent operation of the cleaning system is not necessary. The basic conception is for cleaning with filtrate. As a result of this system, the solids load in the filtrate is extremely low.
The only movable part of the disc thickener is the rotating filter disc so that there will hardly occur any wear.
