The wastewater flows through the households' pipelines into a tank which must be designed to allow for an as complete as possible sedimentation of coarse material and have a scumboard installed to block floating material. As an alternative the solids may also be removed via a screen.

The MembraneClearBox® retrofit system consists of an aeration system and membrane module. While air is introduced the pollutants and nutrients contained in the wastewater are decomposed by the activated sludge and transformed into biomass. The membrane module separates clarified wastewater from activated sludge. The pumps and blowers required are installed either in a control panel adjacent to the tank or a nearby building.

The discharged clarified water can be reused whereas the produced sludge and primary sludge have to be regularly removed.

The complete system is designed as one unit for installation into existing multi-compartment septic tanks or separate tanks. The wastewater must pass through at least one department to separate coarse material prior to flowing through the system to avoid damage the membrane.

Clarified water is discharged directly from this stage via the membrane module for which no operator attention is required except for a monthly function and permeate
quality test and cleaning of the membrane module once a year.

The quality of the effluent from the membrane filter is so high that this can be used as flush water for toilets which can reduce the fresh water demand of households by up to 40%. When adding subsequent treatment steps the effluent can even be used as drinking water.

Design certification according to the new DIN EN 12566-3 !

Since 5th July 2005 the HUBER MembraneClearBox has a design certification according to the new DIN EN 12566-3 and is thus the first plant with ultrafiltration that has got the approval for the new classes C, N, D and +H (+P submitted for approval) in Germany. Approval number received from theDIBT (German institute for structural engineering): Z-55.3-107

The HUBER MembraneClearBox is not only the first ultrafiltration plant with a design certification but also the most advanced and efficient small wastewater treatment plant with a design approval! The approval comprises all standardised small ww treatment plant sizes form 4 to 50 PE.
