  • Function

The wastewater either flows through the channel into the complete plant (underground installation) or is pumped into it (installation above ground). All process stages are integrated in a stainless steel container. While the wastewater flows first through a fine screen or a wedge section screen (see also separate pages Ro 1, Ro 2 and Ro 9 which describe function and operation method), all floating and suspended matter is removed. The integrated screenings press transports the screenings out of the container, dewaters and compacts them to a solids content of up to 40%. The dewatered and compacted screenings are dropped into a container. The press water is led back into the wastewater stream, thus avoiding BOD change. The integrated press reduces the screenings volume by 60%, their weight by 50% and thus saves enormous disposal costs. Included is the grit trap which is designed in compliance with the ATV rules. In the grit trap settling matter is transported against flow direction and organic material is washed out. At the end of the horizontal transporting screw the settling matter falls into a lateral sump.

While a grit classifier transports them out of the sump, the grit is dewatered and finally dropped into a container. Separate disposal of screenings and grit is possible. The complete plant may be equipped with a grit trap aeration or additionally with a grease trap. Aeration and grease trap are extra equipment to improve the function of the plant as a whole. The plant is of course laid out for the maximum flow rate.

The fully automatic control of the plant depends on the water level, the control of the grit removal equipment on time. For cases of power failure, an emergency bypass may be connected to the channel. The whole plant is very robustly constructed, not only because all components are made of stainless steel and are thus maintenance-free but also because of all other parts such as motor, bearing and gear unit. In view of this our experience of almost 10 years is our profit.
